Earlier this year, the NZIHL Facebook page was deleted by Meta (Facebook), with no warning. At no stage had we posted any content which infringed Facebook’s rules, so we were shocked to learn of the page’s removal.

The page disappeared from all administrator tools, meaning we had no way to view the page’s history, access Facebook’s built in support or any other page tools.

Our page administrators dealt with various Meta support channels over 3 months and at no time were we given an official explanation as to why the page was removed.

Meta/Facebook have been extremely difficult to deal with, taking weeks to reply to our questions, refusing to answer the simple questions of “what rule(s) did we break” or “why was our page removed”. Each time we pressed for a proper response, we were told that no further action was possible and the support agents simply stopped replying.

After many months of phone calls and emails to Meta/Facebook’s support team, with no resolution, we have made the difficult decision to abandon hopes of retrieving the page.

Sadly, this means we have lost over a decade of content from our league, players and fans, content of which we have no way of retrieving. Not only does this hurt our passionate crew from around the country, but it also hurts our fans who have contributed so much to our Facebook page over the years.
