NZIHL July 12, 2021  443

This weekend the Skycity Stampede continued to dominate the NZIHL season, remaining undefeated so far in 2021 and have now amassed a whopping 36 points.

On Saturday – goal keeper, Joel Hasselman, had a standout perfomance in net and received a well earned shut out against the Phoenix Thunder with a final score of 6-0.

A win on the final game of the weekend for the Skycity Stampede also meant that the Toa Kauhanga Riri Tio trophy will remain safely on display in the trophy cabinet housed in the Queenstown Ice Arena.

The Botany Swarm will be the next team and the last team of 2021, to challenge the Stampede for the trophy on 21 August 2021.

The Toa Kauhanga Riri Tio (TKRT) Trophy was introduced in 2012. In English, the Te Reo translates into  “champions of the ice battlefield” and the premise of the trophy is loosly based on the Ranfurly Shield challenge system. The holder of the trophy must defend it on home ice in the second game of the round. The Auckland Mako are not entitled to challenge the teams for the cup and the TKRT Trophy was not challenged in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Trophy challenge wins to date:

West Auckland Admirals 7
Canterbury Red Devils 13
Phoenix Thunder 2
