The Phoenix Thunder put on a show for a packed crowd over the weekend during a home series at Dunedin Ice Stadium, with 9:1 and 5:2 victories over the Auckland Mako.

Playing for the first time under their new name, the Phoenix Thunder also debuted their brand new jersey, a fresh design that will certainly stand out in the 2021 season.

Home town hero Paris Heyd tallied an impressive 5 points in game one (3 goals, 2 assists) and 3 points in game two (1 goal, 2 assists).

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: It was a massive first weekend of the season for Phoenix Thunder captain Paris Heyd, racking up 8 points against the Mako! ⚡️

While games played against the Auckland Mako do not count toward official 2021 NZIHL standings, the Phoenix Thunder have certainly put the league on notice that they are here to make an impact this season.
