“We’ve always had the goal to end up in Queenstown. My parents lived in Wānaka for a while, so I spent a bit of time down here when I was younger,” explains Challis. “I’ve been coming down [to Queenstown] for 20-odd years for hockey and knew this was the lifestyle we wanted for our family.”

Stampede head coach, Cameron Frear, expressed enthusiasm about having Challis on board. He noted that his talent and work ethic will undoubtedly strengthen the team and contribute to their success in the upcoming season.

“We’re excited to have Jordan Challis join the SkyCity Stampede this year. With over 200 NZIHL games and more than 50 for the Ice Blacks, his experience and skill will be a great asset to our team,” says Frear. “His vision, passing, and competitive edge, along with his depth of knowledge and big-game experience, are invaluable. We hope that his addition will make our team stronger in our quest to win the Birgel Cup this year.”

Challis has expressed excitement about joining the Stampede, citing the team’s strong reputation and the opportunity to contribute to their continued success. “I’m excited for the season and being part of the Stampede. I hope to contribute towards the team’s success however I can and share my experience with the younger guys. I love hockey more than ever – 17th season in the NZIHL and just as fired up now as I was for my first game in the league.”
