As the NZIHL teams prepare for this week’s official start to the NZIHL season, they’re releasing their captains’ names.

The SkyCity Stampede named their talented trio on Friday. Mitchell Frear was named captain. “It’s a huge honour to have the opportunity to wear the C this season,” says Mitchell, “it’s an exciting year for this team; with a lot of veteran players unavailable this season, it’s a great chance for our younger players to step into more prominent roles.”

Connor Harrison and Callum Burns have been named the assistant captains.

The Phoenix Thunder named their official squad on Saturday night at New New New Corporation. Ben Harford is leading the team this year, assisted by veteran players Regan Wilson and Tristan Darling.

“We are a tight-knit core with a lot of passion,” says Regan. “The build-up to the season has been exciting with new coaching staff and strategies. As captains, we’re looking forward to helping implement these strategies throughout the season.”
