Ice hockey fits well with the sporting culture and psyche of New Zealanders as it is a fast paced, skilful and physical sport. Therefore, ice hockey offers an exciting sporting alternative to traditional Kiwi sports such as rugby, soccer, netball or cricket.

New Zealand's sporting culture combined with its favourable climate means ice hockey has enormous potential to grow and develop into an extremely popular sport that all Kiwi's can enjoy.

The small intimate nature of the rinks in New Zealand allow for spectators to be right behind benches and up close to all the action on the ice. This allows for a fantastic atmosphere as chants reverberate around the rink and big hits can be felt from the stand.

The NZ Ice Hockey League has now been approved by the IRD to have donee organistation status.
