Tonight's game lived up to all expectations and thrilled the
capacity Queenstown crowd. The Stampede bounced back from last
night and came out firing and really took it to the visiting
Admirals. The first goal was to the Stampede and got the crowd
going, it was scored at 9.04 by Joe Bjorkman equal strength and
unassisted. The Admirals came back with the equaliser at 5.38 equal
strength scored by Russell assisted by Huish. Shots on for the
period Stampede 11 Admirals 10.
The second period continued at the same furious pace. The Admirals
momentarily silenced the crowd with an equal strength goal at 15.02
scored by Kivela assisted by and Rantalainen. The Stampede's second
goal was a power play goal at 13.03 scored by Bjorkman and Danny
Smith. The Stampedes Brett Speirs scored an equal strength goal at
2.55 to give the Stampede a one goal lead going into the break and
really get the crowd on side. Shots on for the period Stampede 8

The third period saw more of the same frenetic pace, the Admirals
tying the game up at 17.03 with an equal strength goal to
Chamberlain. With the game winding down the Stampede picked up the
pace and the Admirals seemed to be tiring and turning the puck over
in their end. The Stampede scored two quick goals the first at 4.10
equal strength, to Gareth Lloyd. This was followed at 2.55 by a
shorthanded goal to Bjorkman assisted by player coach Stacey Rout.
After this the game degenerated, firstly when the Admirals Russell
viciously cross checked Bert Haines in the face, the resulting
fracas saw both players sent to the dressing room. With just 23
seconds to run two skirmishes developed and 4 more players took an
early shower. The final 5-3 result and the last few minutes of the
game had the crowd on their feet and it was an exciting finish.
