Tararua Real Iced Coffee Southern Stampede v Botany Swarm
Queenstown Saturday 21st August
The Tararua Real Iced Coffee SouthernStampede were encouraged
by the previous nights game and believed that they could take the
Swarm in this their last game of the season. The first two periods
were played at the same high pace that we saw on Friday night and
there was no score going into the third.
The Stampede opened the scoring when Michael O'Keefe scored an
equal strength goal at 14.06. The Stampede had plenty of possession
but couldn't seem to get quality shots on goal. The Swarm came back
with the equaliser at11.30 when K C Ball scored assisted by Corey
Down. The attacks were coming at both ends but with no further
scoring the game went into overtime. Both teams played themselves
to a standstill in the 5 minute overtime period but there was no
score so the penalty shoot out was on.
The Swarm started the shootout and goals were scored and shots
were saved until it came to Bert Haines to score the decider for
the Stampede. He made no mistake, driving the puck past Zak
Nothling and giving the Stampede the win much to the delight of the
players and fans.
