Sunday August 1st Game.
The Thunder came into this game needing a solid win, to control
their own destiny in making it to the finals. Unfortunately they
came away with a 4-1 defeat to the resurgent Swarm. The Swarm are
in good stead to host a home final, whilst the Thunder are now
becoming more of only a mathematical chance of making the
finals.
The scoring was opened by the Swarm through a goal to Ball, Thunder
not for the first time this season made to pay for not picking up
the late man coming through to pick up the rebound. The Thunder
responded quickly through Enright who buried as shot far side after
picking up a rebound left after a Heyd shot. This however would be
the last goal the Thunder would score.
The Swarm added two more goals in the first period, with the second
coming in the last seconds of the period.
The second period saw the final goal of the game going to Ball who
picked up a Brace. The Thunder really started to knuckle down in
the second, limiting the shots to the outside, and did a better job
of protecting their goalie. However their ill-displine cost them
opportunites to score at the other end. From about halfway through
the second period till the end of the match there was rarely a
point where the Thunder had five players on the ice, and as in any
sport it is difficult to launch a comeback when you are down a man.
The game ended with the Swarm walking away 4-1 victors.
