July 31st Game
Although coming into this round you had the bottom of the table
facing the top of the table, the closeness of the league this year
meant this game was always going to be close.
The Thunder came out storming scoring a goal on their 3rd shift,
with a nice deflection from Enright off Davies. Unfortunately for
the Swarm they lost one of their leading scorers Polozov, who
suffered an injury to his right eye, this served to fire the Swarm
up who found their legs and started pummelling goalie Parry with
shot after shot. They got their equaliser with Wannamaker scoring
halfway through the first period to tie it up.
The Second period belonged to the Swarm they came out strong and
put a lot of shots on net, and pressured the Thunder who struggled
to get out of their own zone, despite this Heyd managed to score a
goal, but the Swarm added two more to their tally, through Joshua
Hay and Gahagan. The second period ended with the score 3-2 to the
Swarm.
But just like their previous Saturday night encounter, the Thunder
were not to be intimidated by a Swarm lead. The scoring was opened
in the third period when Millerioux was taken out when he had a
break, and was awarded a penalty shot , he showed great patience to
clinically convert the opportunity he was given. Millerioux was not
finished yet and 2 minutes later on the powerplay, he unleashed one
of his signature slapshots from the point, that just snuck into the
top blocker corner. This gave the Thunder a 4-3 lead, however the
Thunder love to entertain, and immediately after this goal Ball
equalised for the Swarm, this ended the Scoring in Regulation,
sending the game into overtime.
This would be the Thunder's 4th overtime game for the season, and
the second between these two teams. The referees decided to play a
10 minute period of extra time. Last time the Swarm had been the
victors in Penalty shootout, but not his time Heyd shot from out
wide, the shot was about knee height heading wide glove side, until
Davies got his stick in the way and deflected it in, to give
Thunder the win by way of the golden goal rule.
This match saw the Swarm out shoot the Thunder 46-29, however
brillant goaltending by Parry, coupled with the fact the Thunder
made their limited opportunities count saw the Thunder came out
eventual winners..
