Tuesday's game between the West Auckland Admirals and Botany
Swarm in Avondale was a hard hitting, intense affair between the
cross-Auckland rivals. The Swarm scored first with Lyle Idoine
burying the puck past Greg Davis, but the Admirals responded with
two quick goals from Jouni Kivela and Travis McMaster. Kivela
potted his second early in the second period, but the Swarm replied
with Idoine netting his second of the game. The momentum shifted to
the Swarm when Ian Wannamaker blasted the puck to the far corner,
past Greg Davis to tie the game late in the period.
The Swarm played the third period fired up, and scored two quick
goals (Wannamaker and Idoine again). With the score 5-3, the
Admirals grew increasingly frustrated, and were thwarted at every
scoring attempt. Although the game degenerated with spurts of
violence near the end, the Swarm skated away with a vital road
victory.
