It
only took the Devils just under 5 minutes to light the lamp today.
Hayden Argyle began the scoring off an assist from Chris Eaden who
had been cycled the puck by Stefan Speck. After this the Swarm
began their attack and the game appeared to have the makings of a
defensive battle.
The
second period saw the Devils come out with fire in their eyes and
it only took 2 minutes to get another goal. Captain Adam Soffer
found himself all alone on a breakaway and ripped the shot top
shelf over the goalies glove. Not even a minute later Hayden Argyle
returned the favour and gave a pass to a flying Chris Eaden who
found the back of the net, this put the Devils up 3-0. It wasnt
until 4 minutes later that the Swarm finally got past Justin
Findlay, KC Ball notched a powerplay goal with a cross-ice backdoor
pass from Alex Polokov. This seemed to have upset the Devils as
they went on a tear. Chris Eaden found himself on a breakaway and
put the puck past Kane Easterbrook for his second tally of the
evening. A scrum ensued after the goal by Chris which found 4
different players in the box, leaving it 4 on 4 on the ice. It was
at this time when Mitchell Oak found a streaking Nick DOnofrio who
was again alone on a breakaway and put the puck low blocker side
past Easterbook. This was the last shot that Easterbook would see
this evening as Zak Nothling came in for relief. This change seemed
to have no effect on the Devils as not even 2 minutes later Anton
Purver won a draw straight back to James Carr who put the puck
right through the goalies legs making the score 6-1. The Swarm then
picked up their play and kept the Devils off the board for 4 more
minutes until Mitchell Oak found Chris Eaden who had a 2 on 1 and
dished the puck off to Nick DOnofrio who again found the back of
the net for his second goal of the evening. It seemed that the
period was going to end 7-1 until Adam Soffer found Mitchell Oak
and he took a wrist shot that found the back of the net low blocker
side ending the period 8-1.
The
third period is when the Swarm started to really find their legs.
They came out and outshot the Devils 15-2 in the third. Almost 3
minutes into the third period Joshua Hay got a pass from Alex
Polokov and Lukas Birgel. Again the game became a defensive
stalemate for the majority of the third period until there was 2:56
left in the game when Polokov found himself with the puck and put
it past Findlay. With the Swarm buzzing, Polokov again found the
back of the net with just over a minute left in the game. Although
Alex Polokov had his hand in every goal that was scored for the
Swarm, it wasnt enough to keep the Devils at bay. The game ended
8-4 in favour of the Red Devils.
