The Canterbury Red Devils came out with plenty of aggression in period 1, putting in 2 goals with none for the West Auckland Admirals. The 2^nd period was a hard fought battle with no goals scored. Early in the 3^rd period the Admirals unleashed their cannon to score one early goal. The Devils didnt take this lightly and responded quickly with a power play goal taking the lead 3 to 1. The score remained unchanged until the final 3 minutes. This is when the Admirals took command and put away 3 quick goals in a matter of 1 minute, shutting out the Devils to the end for a 4:3 win. The 2 Finnish imports showed their level of skills by scoring 1 goal and 4 assists. Further goals scored by Kiwi players Blake Jackson, Robert Chamberlain and Andy Hart. The goals scored for the Devils came from Adam Soffer, Chris Eaden and Anton Purver.

After the 1^st round both the Southern Stampede and West Auckland Admirals are leading the table with equally 6 points.
