West Auckland Admirals vs. Canterbury Red Devils
Alpine Ice Rink, Christchurch
The West Auckland Admirals faced a huge challenge in their first
game of the season, travelling to Christchurch to face the
defending NZIHL champion Canterbury Red Devils in their first game
of the season.
The game started at a high pace, with Blake Jackson opening the
scoring just 41 seconds into the game. Jouni Kivela add another
goal eight minutes later. After 16 minutes into the game, the
Admirals were up 4-0, but the Red Devils added two more goals
before the period ended, making the score 4-2 after the first
period.
The second period was another high scoring affair, with the Red
Devils marking three goals to the Admirals 2. 6-5 Admirals after
two.
The third period was another see-saw battle, with the lead
exchanged 3 times once again. Travis McMaster potted his first
NZIHL career goal, followed by Kivela, Aleksi Rantalainen and
Robbie Chamberlain. The final score was 10-8 for an Admirals
victory.
The game featured fast pace offence, much grit and tremendous
intensity. We are expecting the same from a determined Red Devils
team tonight in the second game of the series.
