Botany Swarm vs Tararua Real
Iced Coffee Southern Stampede
Paradice Ice Rink, Botany, Auckland
Sunday 13 June 2010
The Swarms Lyle Idoine opened the scoring soon before the
halfway point of the first period and his goal was followed less
than a minute later with a goal by Joe Bjorkman for the Stampede.
The teams seemed to be evenly matched, with 2 penalties a side, and
despite a lot of movement around the ice there was no breakthrough,
and the first period ended 1-1.
The stalemate continued for the first half of the second period,
teams meeting each other with equal strength. The Swarm began to
dominate with two breakaway shots on goal. Frustration started to
show on both teams and tussles led to eight penalties during the
period. The breakthrough came with just a few minutes to spare when
Ian Wannamaker fired a slap shot into the back of the net, the
period finishing 2-1 to the Swarm.
Both teams played a strong defensive game and there was no
change to the scoreboard until the last few minutes of the third.
Charlie Huber scored for the Swarm, bringing the score to 3-1. With
the Stampede Goalie pulled, Jordan Challis took a shot from within
the Swarm zone with just 26 seconds to spare, the game finishing
4-1 to the Swarm.
