The Swarm and the Thunder took to the ice with renewed energy in their defense, looking to gain the upper hand early in the game after the previous nights tie-breaker shoot out. Neither managed to find an opportunity in the first period, although two shots by the Thunder bounced off the cross bar with a frustrating clang.

The breakthrough came halfway into the second period when the Thunder put the first mark on the board with slap shot on the power play from Martin Millerioux. Three minutes later Simon Christos flicked the puck into the net and soon after Damien Watson did the same. The last two minutes of the second period saw the Swarm on power play and shot after shot was fired at a seemingly impenetrable Thunder goalkeeper. The period ended 3-0 to the Thunder.

The third period saw Dunedin forward Pepy score with 2.47 remaining, and a last minute shot by Leith Thompson landed the puck in the back of the net to put one goal on the board for the Swarm.
