The Swarm #16 Polozov opened the scoring just 2 1/2 minutes into the game, and was quickly answered by Quentin Pepy of the Thunder. The Swarm retaliated with two goals a slapshot from Corey Down and a breakaway from Jordan Challis. Davies scored around the halfway mark for the Thunder and Assistant Captain Charlie Huber scored for the Swarm at the end of the period, to bring the score to 4:2.

The Thunder played catch-up in the second period with 4 goals to the Swarms 2. Of the four Thunder goals, Quentin Pepy scored three and Paris Heyd one. Charlie Huber scored a second time for the Swarm, opening the period with a backhand shot to the top of the goal and Sam Boniface followed with a breakaway goal. This bought the game back to a tie, although both teams stepped up the pace in the last three minutes, neither broke through and the period ended 6-6.

The tie remained for the first half of the third period, and was broken by Kevin Davies of the Thunder. In the last few minutes of the third period Ian Wannamaker scored for the Swarm to send the game to overtime. A scoreless five minute overtime with chances to both sides sent the game to a shootout. After Zak Nothling successfully defended three shots from the Thunder and Aaron Bryant defended three shots from the Swarm, Alexandr Polozov scored the goal that sealed the game for the Swarm.
