Game 2 STP 3 - 1 BTS
04 July 2009
The second game of the double header in Queenstown saw the
Stampede looking to keep it's unbeaten record in the New Zealand
Ice Hockey League.
Facing up against a rejuvenated Botany Swarm, the first period
was hard fought, which once again saw both teams putting in some
big hits, and fast, exciting play.
With the Swarm being penalised regularly thoughout the second
half of the period, it allowed the Stampede to keep pressure on the
current Ice Blacks and Swarm Goalie Zak Nothling, and they were
finally able to score through Brett Speirs assisted by Stacey
Rout.
End of 1st period Stampede 1 - Swarm 0
The Stampede were penalised early in the second period for basic
mistake of having too many men on the ice, allowing the Swarm to
score a solo goal to Canadian import Ian Wannamaker.
It was up to the Stampede's Bjorkman brothers to break the
deadlock, with a power play goal scored by Joe Bjorkman assist by
Brett Bjorkman in the 10th minute.
The remainder of the period saw neither of the teams able to
dominate
End of 2nd period Stampede 2 - Swarm 1
The Third period began like the first with some big hits, and
these continued throughout the remainder of the game.
The Stampede's Goalie Thomas Gobiel, was the major difference in
the period, along with the Stampede's solid defensive unit were
able to neutralise any attack from the Swarm, and a goal to the
Stampede with 8 minutes to go to Braden Lee assisted by Jamie Moore
Carter seemed to put the game beyond the Swarm's reach.
The remainder of the period saw some great offensive defence by
Hayden Argyle who was a stand out in this game.
Final Score Stampede 3 - Swarm 1
