Botany Swarm played their final set of home games for the 2009
season this weekend.� Expectations were high after a two hotly
contested and physical games when the teams met in
Christchurch.
The first period ended 0-0 with 4 penalties for each team, and
it wasn't until midway through the second period that the Red
Devils' Jorden Henare opened the scoring on the power play. Two
more goals followed from Canterbury to bring the end of second
period score to 3-0.
Botany came back fighting, with Charlie Huber scoring the
Swarm's first goal in the first 15 seconds of the third period.
Canterbury replied with four unanswered goals and the Swarm's Josh
Hay landed one final puck in the net just before the buzzer. Final
score 7-2.
Sunday 2 August
In the second game the Swarm were awarded 6 minor penalties
during the first period, and the Devils scored four goals, one of
which on the power play.� Kane Easterbrook made his second start of
the season for the Swarm in which he faced 22 shots in the first
period.
Only one goal was scored in the second period with Dale Harrop
netting his second of the game.� Paris Heyd had an even strength
marker to start the third period in which Canterbury had 8 minor
penalties and the Swarm replied twice on the power play.� Firstly
with Sam Boniface assisted by Sam Moses, and Jesse Trepanier, and
with just four seconds on the clock, Ant Nathan scored one last
goal, assisted by Ian Wannamaker and Leith Thompson.
Final Score 6-2.
